That wooden swirl gives a lot of character to violins\/fiddles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One could vary the design, increase the depth, change circumference radius (a bit), among other things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea is to typically carve the scroll and shape it like a volute<\/strong><\/em>, or rolled up spiral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a decorative piece that attests one’s skill and craftsmanship<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the inspiration for it? Perhaps nature?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps that’s the reason why Germans call the scroll Schnecke<\/em>, ie, snail.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Also called violin headstock<\/em>, ie, the upper part of the violin\/fiddle’s neck, where the scroll and the pegbox lie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
