These insects will lay out eggs during the summer in any wood crack. After these eggs hatch, they start eating away wood creating burrows as they eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lifecycle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the lifecycle of woodworms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"732\" height=\"670\" src=\"https:\/\/riccardo964.techster.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/wood-worm-life-cycle.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1570\" style=\"width:496px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/riccardo964.techster.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/wood-worm-life-cycle.png 732w, https:\/\/riccardo964.techster.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/wood-worm-life-cycle-300x275.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 732px) 100vw, 732px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Some factoids (wanting to be truths) I&#8217;ve found on the Internets (I have yet found time to validate these claims, sorry):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sap (the resin found on trees, ie, <em>&#8220;Sapwood is xylem that is still carrying water from the roots to the tree&#8217;s crown&#8221;<\/em>) increases the likelihood of woodworm infestation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Woodworms are attracted by humidity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The trees used by the great masters luthiers were soaked in (sea) water, where they absorbed minerals and created a natural protection against woodworms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use of Dragon&#8217;s Blood<sup data-fn=\"2d9db2d7-82e8-4da3-a089-23458f029d7e\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"2d9db2d7-82e8-4da3-a089-23458f029d7e-link\" href=\"#2d9db2d7-82e8-4da3-a089-23458f029d7e\">1<\/a><\/sup> as varnish &#8211; sadly, it&#8217;s hard to find this ingredient in modern times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/riccardo964.techster.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/wood-worm-1-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/riccardo964.techster.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/wood-worm-1-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/riccardo964.techster.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/wood-worm-1-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/riccardo964.techster.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/wood-worm-1-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/riccardo964.techster.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/wood-worm-1-1536x864.png 1536w, https:\/\/riccardo964.techster.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/wood-worm-1-1320x743.png 1320w, https:\/\/riccardo964.techster.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/wood-worm-1.png 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Woodworms will eat wood out of furniture, doors, windows, flooring, and violins\/violas\/cellos &#8211; whatever has wood.
